Workers begin removing the temporary support structure beneath the Main Street Bridge after the deck pour hardened enough to hold men and equipment to complete the job.
The steel beam structure rested on temporary piers erected in Alum Creek. Hardened grout was formed between the piers and the beams and had to be jack-hammered away to loosen the beams from the deck structure.
Workers used the largest hammers possible that could be held over their heads to chip away the 15,000 pounds per square inch grout aggregate.
