Interlocking Steel Coffer Dam

by Gary Gardiner on August 12, 2010

An operator watches the progress of  sections of interlocking steel beams being vibrated into the ground around one of the original abutments at the Main Street Bridge to create a coffer dam to hold back Alum Creek as the structure is removed to make way for new construction.

In his hands  is the controller for the vibrating hammer that forces the sections of 50-foot long steel into the ground in less than three minutes.
