A life preserver leans against one of the coffer dams in Alum Creek as dirt that was behind an abutment is removed to a different location at the construction site on Main Street.
Despite Alum Creek being shallow enough that a worker who fell in could easily stand up in the water, the preserver is always close by as workers navigate around the creek.
