Original sandstone abutment on the underside of Main Street Bridge

Sandstone To Be Preserved

by Gary Gardiner on July 12, 2010

The sandstone blocks used as abutment in the original Main Street Bridge were reused when the bridge was rebuilt in 1969. They’ve survived the years with little damage under the bridge that handles as many as 10,000 cars a day.

Plans for the new bridge include using the original sandstone for bike and pathways planned to run under the new structure.
