Rusted cabling in concrete

The reason for the changes

by Gary Gardiner on July 30, 2010

Rusted strands of steel cables are exposed on the underside of a slab on concrete removed from the Main Street Bridge road surface  during demolition.

One of the reasons the old bridge is being demolished to make way for a new span is the heavy corrosion and rusting in the supporting cables and rebar underneath the bridge.

A tour of the underside of the bridge the week before demolition began showed pieces of steel cabling and reinforcing rods dangling from eroded concrete.
